Practical information

In 2014 Germany will be the host country for EuroDIG. It will be hosted by the Association of the German Internet Industry, eco and under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and in co-operation with the Federal Foreign Office as the hosting location. The headquarters of the Federal Foreign Office at the Werderscher Markt has a particularly unusual history both as regards its architecture and the various bodies it has housed over the years – as seat of the Reichsbank, the GDR Ministry of Finance, the SED Central Committee and finally the “Haus der Parlamentarier”. …read more

Important information about the venue:

  • EuroDIG will take place in the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Werderscher Markt 1, 10117 Berlin. The entrance for EuroDIG participants will be from “Unterwasserstrasse 10″, which is just around the corner of the main entrance at Werdersche Markt 1. (see map)
  • Please keep your ID card or passport ALWAYS with you, otherwise you will not be allowed to enter or re-enter the building, the EuroDIG badge will not be sufficient.
  • There are no parking spaces assigned for EuroDIG participants, we recommend using public transportation for your arrival. The nearest stations are Underground “Spittelmarkt”, „Hausvogteiplatz“ or “Französische Strasse”.  From these stations it will be only 7-10 min walk.
  • Wheelchair access is available, but you should inform us in advance, because it is a separate entrance.
  • Please do not bring suitcases or heavy luggage with you, acess to the building is possible with hand luggage only.

Registration:

  • For security reasons online registration is absolutely necessary. Registration opens on 1 April 2014 / 0:00 UTC until 6 June 2014 / 24:00 UTC.
  • Please bring your ID card or passport with you, otherwise you will not be allowed to enter the building.
  • Pre registration will be possible the day before in the Arcotel John F. (time tbc)
  • Participation at EuroDIG is free of charge

Getting to the venue:

From Tegel Airport (TXL): In front of terminal A/B the bus line TXL will get you to the heart of the city within 33 minutes. You need a local transport ticket category AB (2,40 EUR). Please note that ticket machines and bus drivers do not accept credit cards (Maestro debit cards are accepted at ticket machines). Please leave the bus at Staatsoper/Unter den Linden, and walk in the direction of the bus until you reach the channel (2 mins). Right before the channel, turn right (Schinkelplatz). From there you have to keep walking next to the channel (5 mins) until you reach the entrance of the Federal Foreign Office at Unterwasserstraße 10.

If you prefer to go by taxi, it will take you about 35 minutes for about 30 EUR. Please note that many Berlin taxi drivers only accept cash, no credit cards.

From Schönefeld Airport (SXF): From Schönefeld Airport, regional trains will bring you to Alexanderplatz in 22 Minutes, leaving every 20-30 minutes (RB14, RE7/4). Do not use the “S-Bahn” local trains, they take much longer and require changing at least once! You need a local transport ticket category ABC (3,10 EUR). Please note that ticket machines and bus drivers do not accept credit cards (Maestro debit cards are accepted at ticket machines). At Alexanderplatz, change to U2 subway line (direction: Ruhleben) and leave at Spittelmarkt station in the same direction as the train. At the exit, cross the big street next to you and turn right. When you reach the channel, turn left and walk along the street by the channel.

If you prefer to go by taxi, it will take you about 45 minutes for about 50 EUR. Please note that many Berlin taxi drivers only accept cash, no credit cards.

From Hauptbahnhof (Berlin Central Station): S-Bahn will bring you from Hauptbahnhof to Alexanderplatz in 5 Minutes, leaving every few minutes from platform 15. You need a local transport ticket category AB (2,40 EUR). Please note that ticket machines and bus drivers do not accept credit cards (Maestro debit cards are accepted at ticket machines). At Alexanderplatz, change to U2 subway line (direction: Ruhleben) and leave at Spittelmarkt station in the same direction as the train. At the exit, cross the big street next to you and turn right. When you reach the channel, turn left and walk along the street straight by the channel.

If you prefer to go by taxi, it will take you about 10 minutes for about 10 EUR. Please note that many Berlin taxi drivers only accept cash, no credit cards.

Tickets & Berlin public transport in general

All public transport services of the BVG and the German Rail – light rail, underground, busses, trams and ferries can be used with a valid ticket. The Zone AB includes the metropolitan area to the city limits, and the zone ABC also include the countryside surrounding Berlin, and Potsdam. With the „Einzelfahrausweis“ (one-trip ticket) one person can travel through the city for up to two hours, but can not return in the direction of the original point of departure.

Taxi

There are around 7000 taxis underway on the streets of Berlin. If you need one, wave to one from side of the road, go to a taxi stand, order one by telephone to the desired location. Within city limits, prices are calculated by a taxi-meter, and price agreements are against the law. Please note that many Berlin taxi drivers only accept cash, no credit cards.
